Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine what your life would be like without technology. Picture yourself with no cell phone, no computer and just a small whiteboard to write on every day. This is what my students' lives are like everyday. They have no technological outlets at home or at school.
I teach first grade at a Title 1 school in North Carolina.
My students have extremely diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds and even more diverse academic backgrounds ranging from below grade level to above grade level. My school has a 96% free and reduced lunch eligible population. My students are hard working and deserve every opportunity for learning that the more affluent schools down the street get on a daily basis. We need technology to change this!
My Project
Having an iPad in our classroom will open the door for more engaging and hands-on learning. Students will be able to take learning off the page and into life! With technology at school, students will be ready for the 21st century, practice typing skills and learn Internet etiquette. An iPad can be used during a workshop as a student center or during science to search for videos and images of subjects we are learning about. In addition, an iPad can be used by my students as an incentive to bring home and use with their families. This will invest students and families in their education.
This project is very important because I want my students to be able to see things from different perspectives.
An iPad will bring our 18th century classroom to the 21st century and open new opportunities that weren't there before.
