Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine a campus that provides a safe haven for adolescents who live in extreme poverty. We give our students breakfast, lunch, and skills to help them succeed in life. We prepare them to have a good job, to provide for their family, and to give back to the community. Every day is about the future.

Our school district is about 20 miles from the border with Mexico.

Many of our students struggle with academic English and need extra help. They are very bright but often begin school later in life and need to catch up. They work hard and want to be successful, and I try to give them all the support I can.

My Project

Our iPads will be used to teach students reading and writing skills that will help them become fluent in English and able to read and write well. Students will use the earphones to listen to books, English pronunciation lessons, and news programs. We will examine how our community fits into the world community and how students can prepare to join that community.

We were lucky to get our iPads, and we are very grateful.

However, we also know that the devices have to last for several years. So, in order to be able to use them and to maintain their viability, we want to protect them while they are in use. Therefore, these protectors will provide support for instruction this year and for at least three more years. That means our classroom will be one of the few digital classrooms in our district. Our students think that is really cool!
