The greatest challenge that the students I work with face is communication. Many of them are not able to communicate verbally, so alternative methods are needed. It is important that they have access to resources, which will allow them to communicate their wants and needs.
The students I am working with qualify for Special Education services.
These services benefit students with Autism and others who have specialized orthopedic and medical needs. Some of the students are able to verbalize, but many others require assistive technology to help with expression.
My Project
In order to facilitate communication, an iPad is necessary. The program, SoundingBoard will be utilized in order for students to communicate. A picture can be taken of an item and a voice can be recorded, which will play when the student selects the desired image. Along with the iPad, a protective case is needed that is durable and can easily be cleaned. This will protect the students and the life of the device. A stylus that can be modified if needed will be used to help students access the device.
Each student I work with is unique, but this device will benefit everyone.
Please help me give a voice to the students I work with this year. Thank you for your help and support!
