The high school I work at is full of energetic students ready to learn. They're excited to come to school each day to see what they are going to discover. They love to dig right in and be hands-on; something I can't always provide. iPads can bring things to life that can't always be done in traditional counseling sessions.
I have students that come from low-income, middle, and upper class families.
Students come from single parent homes as well as homes with two parents. I have students with ADD, ADHD and speech issues. Though my students may come from different walks of life, they all have one thing in common: they can all learn. They just do it in different ways. Having an iPad Pro would allow me to better run individual and small groups for counseling purposes, and also individuals plans for college and career readiness.
My Project
Receiving an iPad Pro would allow my students to explore the world around them. Students would have the ability to research careers of interest, take virtual field trips to different universities, and collaborate with other students. Together with my students, we will be able to talk about their future, in terms of college and career. Students will be able to use apps to better define their career paths and find jobs that suit their interests. Last, but certainly not least, students will have the opportunity to read enhanced eBooks featuring images, video and audio in relation to college and career readiness. These elements are impossible to include in print or a standard eBook.
Wherever we look or go, whatever we do, technology is part of of our daily lives.
As there are students who work with their counselor on a regular basis, they will be able to use apps on the iPad that leads students through mindful breathing exercises for comparing strength of feelings before and after the exercise. Sessions will be able to be led with students with icebreaker questions for small groups. By receiving an iPad Pro for my students, we will be able to use the device within individual/small groups and also their individual plan for college and career readiness.
