Every day we use speech and language, we read, write, communicate with others, and get our ideas across. I do most of my treatment out of my office and carry my supplies with me. An iPad would be a big help as I serve my students.
Our suburban school serves students who speak over 20 different languages, participates in free and reduced lunch, and includes three classrooms with special needs.
I have many students who are learning to ask questions, answer questions, and participate in class more fully. Some are working on their speech so they can make themselves understood with peers and teachers. We grew by 50 new students this fall, and more students means more students with needs!
My Project
My therapy happens all over the school, and my students would benefit from a therapy tool that is mobile. Over the past four years, many apps have been developed that I can use in therapy with my students. An iPad mini would be a motivator for my students while they work on their speech and language. My students often struggle to make themselves understood and get frustrated that they can't get their ideas across, and I want to help them be heard. I want my students motivated to practice with me so they can hone their skills and be able to participate in their general classroom more easily.
Your donation will make it possible for me to serve my students in creative and fun ways.
Being excited to work on speech and language is sometimes difficult as it includes a lot of repetition, but an iPad would increase the "fun" factor. An iPad could also be used as a way to practice language while reading, writing, drawing, and being creative!
