This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work with many small groups in my classroom so supplies go quickly. It would be great to have a supply of dry erase markers to use with all my groups. Unifix cubes would be amazing to help them make the connections in math since they do so well with hands-on activities.
Our school is in a high poverty area in Indianapolis.
Many of our students don't have the means to bring school supplies to school, let alone replenish materials as needed. With money being tight in the district it is up to us to supply our students with additional materials, such as dry erase boards and tactile materials that would make learning so much fun for our students. The advantages that could be afforded to our students using the unifix cubes and dry erase markers in small groups would be amazing.
My Project
My students will use the dry erase markers with the dry erase boards that I have already. We like to do problems on them to discuss and save paper. The unifix cubes could make mathematics more concrete for the students. It seems that the students really understand and retain the information when they can get hands-on and do things for themselves.
These donations will improve my classroom because children in first grade through sixth grade work in the room.
These children are the students that need that extra small group attention to make them successful. It would be awesome to give them an extra tool to help them reach that success level. They get so excited when they have new and fun tools to use!
