Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in the beautiful city of Victoria, Texas. We have a diverse population who mainly come from the neighborhood our school is located in.

These students come from diverse families such as English language learners and students with special needs.

As a Title One school, we generally serve most students a free breakfast. Our school district was hit by Hurricane Harvey and is still recovering. We have many families who are staying with other families or in accommodated housing. The majority of our students are from low socio-economic backgrounds and have little access to extra curricular activities or outside learning opportunities. We would love for every student to want to come to school ready to learn and fall in love with learning, but sometimes we have to help them fall in love with learning like teachers fall in love with teaching.

My Project

Due to their low socio-economic family status and made worse by Hurricane Harvey, our students have little opportunity to explore outside of our city or gain new experiences outside the immediate area of the home.

Throughout years of teaching I have seen the level of vocabulary our students possess slowly reduce and has become an area of major concern.

These vocabulary games will provide a fun and interactive way to increase my students vocabulary. It is my hope that through an increased vocabulary their reading and writing capabilities will increase as well providing them more opportunities for academic success not only this year but in years to come.
