Investor Education and Financial Literacy

My students need 23 business calculators that will allow them to determine interest and other banking/financial equations.

My high school services grades 9-12 and is located in a small city in the Oklahoma that is experiencing its major employers either closing or moving its business elsewhere. With the economy the way it is, there is no money to spend since the number of students attending our school is expected to decline due to the business environment.

Last year, I started teaching financial literacy and investing to help students prepare for their future. This course is designed to prepare students for the future and college by introducing them to financial planning and banking concepts. It also goes into investor education where students actually do a stock market simulation on the computer where they experience what it is like being in the market place. After teaching this class last year, I have seen the importance of this course and the impact that it has on students. It gives them a reality check and some have even decided to major in business and finance in college.

To enhance this course and empower my students, I am wanting to purchase a classroom set of business calculators so that students can learn the impact of interest on their future.

Many of my students are tactile learners and if they can physically work a problem, they retain what they learn. The use of the calculators would let my students expand their knowledge base in preparation for their future. For those students majority in business and finance they will be one step ahead when they enter college.
