Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach eighth grade Mathematics in a Collaborative Team Teaching classroom model. Some of my students receive special needs services, such as counseling, speech therapy, and resource room. They each have varying strengths and weaknesses. However, they are equal in their desire to achieve the most out of life.
Financial literacy is rarely taught in schools. However, managing personal finances may help determine if you live independently, go to college and/or graduate school and travel internationally. All of these things are factors which are used to measure success.
My students are already displaying bad money management habits. I want to teach a unit on financial literacy in May of this year. I will use reference books, such as "Financial Literacy for Teens" and workbooks that provide graphic organizers to practice planning budgets, balance a checkbook, calculate interest, etc. These will be lessons they can carry and apply throughout their adulthood.
Many adults, including myself, wish they had financial literacy education while they were young. Please help provide my students with a proper education in financial literacy to give them a better chance at independence and success in the future!
