Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a high poverty area with a great number of ELLs (English language learners) and also a high population of special needs students.
My classroom consists mostly of second language learners, special education students, and regular education students, as well as gifted and talented students that want to feel empowered, learn, and be successful in life.
I teach seventh-grade students who are preparing themselves for high school and beyond. It's my goal to provide the educational needs and challenges that they may face.
My Project
By providing my students access to this resource, they will learn and become interested in careers in Environmental Science.
A career in Environmental Science can help people learn how the environment affects their health.
Many of our students suffer from allergies or asthma, one experiments my students can complete is to investigate how our environment affects our health. An investigation that we have in mind is to collect samples of pollen and dust around our school and neighborhoods. They can even collect nasal samples! Students can compare these samples using microscopes and other technology.
Using stories from the If/Then curriculum, my students will learn the process of conducting research, collect and analyze data. They will use this data to create graphs and interpret information that can be shared with their peers. Their newly acquired skills will be showcased to our school community during Open House. Help my students develop and enhance their imagination through the use of this useful technology.
