My students need Liquid Tile Mats, Ramptastic, a Survive the Quake Engineering Kit, and the Create-A-Path Magnetic Center to enhance our science discovery center.
My young students are considered at risk. Many don’t have a lot of speech or fine and gross motor skills. Some have very few material belongings. None of that matters to my young learners. They see and treat each other just the same. My students are amazing kids with an endless potential if given the opportunity.
What my young students have in abundance is a lot of love and a genuine desire to learn.
We are a Title I preschool in an urban, public school system. Over 78% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. To them, it doesn't matter what their lives are like at home. When they come to school, they know it's a safe place that encourages them to use their imagination, allows them to explore, and helps train them to use their intellect in a fun and creative way.
My Project
These requested science enrichment materials will allow my young students hands-on experiences that will begin to open the world of science up to them. Sensory tiles have a calming effect as they teach about how fluid/liquid moves inside an enclosed container. The Survive a Quake Engineering Kit helps the students better understand how an earthquake moves in waves and causes buildings to collapse. It provides students with the chance to engineer a better built structure. Ramptastic will teach about speed, friction and velocity while my young learners have fun! The Create-a-Path Magnetic Center will allow my students to build a variety of pathways which will enhance STEM problem solving skills.
Science is essential in the early childhood classroom.
Science builds a foundation for beginning skills of inquiry, curiosity and critical thinking. It builds a basis for future scientific understanding. These requested items could help to lead my young learners into a future STEM field, and it would be thanks to your support!
