My Students

Many of the student I teach come from difficult backgrounds, 66% of the students at my school are economically disadvantaged. This socioeconomic deficit often conflicts learning in the classroom.

I strive to create an environment of opportunity, a classroom in which students can learn and grow despite what their lives are like outside of school.

The occasional use of technology has increased engagement, drive, and success for my students in an unmistakable way. I'd like to be able to offer my students this type of opportunity and access to quality educational tools on a regular basis.

My Project

I teach in a school where over half of the students come from low socioeconomic homes. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home, they do not know how to research, how to discern credible sources from non-credible, or how to write based on their research. As a history teacher, I have found that technology is the greatest avenue to engagement!

With this project students will have the opportunity to learn valuable skills that will prepare them for high school and even college.

There are so many amazing and interactive resources for history. Students can take virtual field trips through history, analyze primary sources in depth, and practice a skill they will need all their lives, research!

I have been able to have students practice these skills on a small scale, but due to the lack of materials it is difficult to implement it as often as I would like. I have witnessed the power technology has to engage the most apathetic of learners, and to help students retain information by discovering it for themselves. I would like to be able to do this on a larger scale.

Chromebooks are expensive, and I am grateful for any donation to help get my students the resources that will benefit them the most! Thank you!
