Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning makes the world a bigger place. It expands perspectives and increases the connections that can be made to everything around us. I want my students to have every opportunity I can provide to grow their love of learning. The best way they experience this is to investigate hands-on.

My students are 6th graders learning in a socio-economic area with many obstacles.

Our students are provided with laptops.They have been given a unique opportunity to study in a STEM middle school where they get to design and engineer solutions to real-world problems.

My Project

Using the microscope and materials students will study the smaller organisms living in ecosystems. They will determine what characteristics allow the organism to survive in that particular environment. Components of soil, plant life, insects, and pond life will specifically be examined. The USB connectivity will allow all of my students to discuss the specimen simultaneously. I plan to encourage my students to use the microscope not only with the class computer, but also with their individual computers. This unit specifically aligns to NGSS Life Science Standard MS-LS2. Moving beyond this area of study I plan to continue using these materials as we study other areas of Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science.

With these materials, my students will have the opportunity to look closely at things around them everyday.

My hope is that it will inspire curiosity and a desire to learn as well as teach them the how organisms survive, adapt, and work together in ecosystems.
