This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are natural storytellers. They are brilliant, bold, and resilient. Many come from neighborhoods where opportunities are limited, but they show up every day with creativity, energy, and a desire to be heard. Even with gaps in reading and writing skills, they thrive when given tools that speak their language. That is why I created No Ghostwriter Needed, a music-based creative writing program rooted in Hip-hop, where students use rhythm, rhyme, and personal storytelling to strengthen their literacy skills.

This project will help turn our classroom into a creative studio space where student voices are amplified both literally and figuratively.

The Pyle PA speaker system, microphone kit, professional headphones, and the Donner MIDI Pad Beat Maker Machine will allow students to not only write and record their lyrics but also produce their own beats from scratch. With 16 beat pads, assignable knobs, and built-in music production software, this MIDI controller will teach them about sound layering, rhythm, and structure while reinforcing writing, sequencing, and critical thinking. It connects music and literacy in a way that feels natural, exciting, and empowering.

This is more than a writing class. It is a space for healing, growth, and truth-telling. Through music and writing, students are reclaiming their narratives, learning history, building skills, and becoming confident communicators ready to shape the future.
