Introduction to Engineering

My students need books and manipulatives to learn about engineering. We are a new STEM program so I am working to have the resources available to enhance their learning.

My Students

My class is a STEM Kindergarten in a Title I school. They are truly amazing! Many have gone from a preprimer reader to reading at a second grade level. Math levels are out the door. My biggest issue is trying to find engineering resources to continue challenging them. These resources will help.

The students are in a Kindergarten STEM program at a Title I school.

We are located in Florida. Students came to the program knowing letters and sounds, numbers, and some some sight words. Their drive and ambition has been amazing. All are reading above grade level as well as working at first/second grade levels in math.

My Project

I am working to provide my students with more background about what engineering is as well as providing activities they can do. We have been very limited up to this point as far as having books that tell about all the different types of engineering and how the different fields are applied in the real world. I want to be able to do a better job for my students.

Students will be exposed to what an engineer does and what career opportunities are available to them.

They will also understand how engineering effects our lives every day. They will be able to do basic engineering projects in the classroom as well.
