My Students

For me, there is nothing more rewarding than working with young children whose eyes reflect a sense of wonder, curiosity and joy. It is a privilege to be able to prepare these wonderful children for the world that we live in, a world that requires an understanding of how to use technology.

I have the best job in the world!

I start my work day with warm hugs and beautiful smiles from twenty preschool children. My students are a diverse group of children who come from all types of cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds. They are eager to learn and grow. For many, this is their first time attending school and it is very rewarding for me to watch them develop. Despite their varying backgrounds, however, they all share a love of technology. We have an interactive white board that I use every day and it is fascinating to see how much more engaged they are in these particular lessons. Working with one interactive board and twenty children, however, limits each child's actual hands-on use of technology. Consequently, I am searching for ways to expose their one on one time with technology. Adding iPads to our Technology Center would enable children to take turns attending that center and work for a prolonged period of time using iPads.

My Project

In our classroom, we have different learning centers, one of which is a Technology Center. Currently, I have only one functioning computer in this center and would like to strengthen the center by adding two iPads. iPads are an ideal tool for introducing students to technology while developing their academic skills. If we were to have iPads in our Technology Center, the students would have access to numerous free websites such as Starfall, Brainpop and ABCMouse. Additionally, iTunes offers free educational apps that could be installed on the iPads. These free websites and apps strengthen children's reading, math and science skills as they play games. The children love playing on these websites and apps and don't even realized they are learning! Also, the iPads would allow each child a turn as our class photographer. Finally, iPads would allow us to take pictures and videos of our classroom activities and post them to our class website for families to view.

Individuals hoping to succeed at home and work need to be well versed in technology.

iPads are an ideal way of introducing students to technology and developing their computer literacy and academic skills. Including iPads in our Technology Center would enable me to maximize each child's one on one time with an interactive technology tool thereby simultaneously developing each child's academic and technological skills.
