Ms. Owens from Fairburn GA is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students access to updated technology. Roughly 263 million children can’t always take advantage of their education due to technological barriers. My goal is to have an updated classroom computer to help students excel.

I teach in the heart of Memphis and many students have no access to technology. Many of my sixth graders read on a 2nd or 3rd grade reading level, but can show me how to work my cellphone, class projector, and even the class computer. I know that without a doubt I can use something they love (technology) to improve a necessary skill such as reading. It amazes me how students with so little, strive to learn so much more regardless of the technological barriers they face. My goal is to eliminate that barrier.
For a typical lesson in history, students will use the classroom computer for research purposes. For example, my students work in stations, one of which is the computer station. When a group enters the computer station they are given 15 minutes to use the computer to research their topic and print whatever information they will need. Once the research period has ended and presentation day comes, students will use the computer to present their projects. Students’ research and class presentations are bound to improve. While schools are closed for the remainder of the year, the computer will be used for virtual learning.
I’m excited to introduce updated technology to my students, and with your help the sky is the limit.
