My Students
We are a 4th grade class in a low-income, Title I school, where most of the students live in poverty. The majority of my class is learning English as a second language, while they patiently try to teach me Spanish as a second language. We are working hard to create a confident class who believes they can do anything. Due to the dynamics of this area, my students don't have access to the technology and materials that are readily available in the homes of more affluent areas.
I want our classroom learning to incorporate mediums that my students wouldn't otherwise be able to experience.
I'm working hard to provide them with a well rounded curriculum integrated with technology, art, and music.
My Project
These various art supplies will allow me to integrate art into my core curriculum. My students will be using these supplies during our lesson plans. Our lesson plans entail creating settings and characters, instead of just reading about them.
These supplies will help my students, especially those new to the English language, express what they have learned in creative ways.
They will be able to make the environments they're learning about instead of just looking at pictures. We will make math tangible through the use of various art mediums. Storage units will be essential to classroom organization allowing my students to work in a clean room.
Chalk pastels and markers will enhance my student's excitement about our curriculum. The hands-on learning I will be able to incorporate, by integrating art in the curriculum, will only benefit my students.
