My students need a 45 minute "Animals Alive" program conducted by the Alley Pond Environmental Center to visit our very own classroom.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment, and the children enjoy coming to school. I am currently teaching 18 lovable preschoolers who are curious, funny, loving, and eager to learn. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children. My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, creative, honest, and cute. The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
My Project
Children in the Big Apple do not always get the chance to see nature up close. Children must be made aware of the interdependence on the planet of all species. The problem is my preschoolers do not always get the opportunity to experience nature. I want to give them this opportunity.I have been noticing that many students who are coming to school for the first time do not have a lot of prior knowledge when it comes to nature. My goal is to reveal to them the basic laws of nature and the risks to our planet posed by mankind. My other goal in Pre-K is to keep the children engaged and interested in learning. If I can keep the children engaged, I believe I will keep their interest which will lead to a strong foundation in early childhood science.
I am requesting a visit from the Alley Pond Environmental Center that will make nature come alive.
Through this experience, we will learn about different animals. Pre-K students will see nature come to life before their eyes. Children learn best through experiences that are integrated and multi-sensory. They will learn so much from animal habitats to preserving their planet. This experience will help enrich our Pre-K program. Please help us to explore science right here in our classroom. This would be an experience the children would never forget.
The seeds of scientific intrigue must be planted early so that students can encounter the laws of nature. This interactive experience would enrich my teaching and give the students experiences that go considerably beyond the picture, pencil and paper activities. I try to make my classroom a constructionist one with emphasis on understanding by doing things hands-on. A strong science program in the early grades can lay the foundation for a lifetime
