My Students

Every year, we as teachers grow and learn, adapting to the needs of our children. They have personality through the roof and even where they struggle, they try because they know how happy it makes you. They are the reason I love my job so much and am happy to go to work every day. So for me learning that my school does not have enough copies of the novel Night by Elie Wiesel for my students to be enriched with, I knew it was my job to find a way. Being able to share a piece of history and use this as a pathway to teach the necessary standards is a win win for me. But for them, it’s a win because I know the kids will feel successful with this novel. They will be able to connect with the text in a variety of ways, but also learn something new every day; wanting to come back for more the next.

My Project

Needing literature is essential to exposure and connections! When I found out my school did not have enough copies for my students to have a class set I knew I had to act. After all that’s what we tell our students to do if we want change. Night by Elie Wiesel is a way to have students connect with past, present, and future; showing that the things that happen to us do not define us. These things and many more is why I am requesting a class set of the novel. This book has changed lives and I want it to continue to change lives by showing my students how to persevere and be better than those who came before us.
