My students need Scholastic Action magazine to provide them with a fun resource that is written on a lower reading level, but appeals to students their age.

My Students
My 6th grade English/Language Arts are awesome! Unfortunately, many come from impoverished homes, but they LOVE learning. My students have a very wide range of reading levels so, my classroom must cater to their different needs.
6th graders want to learn and achieve.
I teach about 90 students. Of those 90 students, approximately 60% live in poverty, 17% have a learning disability, and 15% are served in gifted and talented programs. The diversity of my students calls for daily differentiation in my classroom.
My Project
Scholastic Action magazine will help some of my students (English Language Learners and low readers) by providing them with articles and short stories they want to read and can read. The subscription comes with audio support for my students to follow along with which will really help my English Language Learners and lower readers. The articles are written to appeal to middle school students, but are not daunting and discouraging because they are written on a 3-5 grade reading level. The activities that Scholastic includes in their magazines provides them with a chance to learn while having fun. Scholastic will be a great supplement to my class to provide intervention for my lower readers and ESL students.
