This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This simple but very needed project will touch upon the daily needs of the students in our intervention groups. Daily, we use folders, dry erase markers, and highlighters to practice, review, and repeat our weekly sound/spelling pattern. The students sound out their words, spell them out, highlight from their weekly decodables, create sentences, and answer comprehension questions related to their weekly stories stemming from the sount/spelling patterns our small group is currently working on.
As simple as it may seem to sound out word, create sentences, and make paragraphs, some of our learners need explicit, structured instruction for the patterns of words to make sense.
Whether they are native English speakers or English learners, these tools and instruments will make it easier for them to do daily practices. The more exposure they have with their spelling patterns, the better they remember and be able to store in their long-term memory for future use.
