My Students
I have an amazing group of children in my classroom this year. They are excited to learn yet they need to improve their skills that are necessary to work at grade level. They come from a low income community where the need is high.
My school is in an area that's poverty-laden.
Our school has over 75% of the students on free and reduced lunch. My students are amazing and they have this giant thirst for knowledge. They try to not let their lack of income effect their performance in school. They are hard working but lack some of the foundation skills necessary to perform at grade level. Any extra intervention they can get in that area will be a giant plus for them.
My Project
These materials will be used during independent and small group time. The students are going to use these materials fill help fill in some of the gaps that they currently have in their education. These materials are going to teach the children to work on their own (or sometimes in very small groups) and to take control of their educational deficits.
This project is going to make a difference in a couple of way.
The first way is that it will help my students close their educational gaps. There are so many skills they need practice with and these materials will directly target those skills. The other way this will make a difference is that these kids will see that people other than their teacher believes in them. You have no idea how meaningful it is for these kids to see that people outside of their community care about them.
