My Students

My students are so excited to return to school and get back to having hands-on STEAM experiences in our Innovation Lab. We will delve into 3D printing, robotics, and programming, as well as many other hands-on projects. It is so fun to watch their faces light up when they see the results of their own creations.

The students are curious and creative, imaginative, and innovative.

I love hearing their new ideas. We are a diverse school with many cultures and languages, and STEAM experiences are great at bringing everyone together for a common goal.

My Project

In our Innovation Lab, we are constantly learning new ways of programming, thinking about code, and applying it to everyday life. Programming is a very visual language, and being able to efficiently diagram, or map, your code is essential.

Having a system for the students that easily transforms our existing projector and screen into an Interactive Whiteboard will really allow them to be able to easily demonstrate their code on the projector screen, without having to manage the program directly on a computer.

The interactive whiteboard will also help them to be able to work together as groups to solve their coding challenges, as it will be an easy way for them to collaborate and share ideas. The coding challenges will combine both robot programming and financial literacy, as the students will use our robots to move grocery items from given areas to the checkout area. The students will have to determine which items fit within their given budget and which items are outside the budget. Solving puzzles such as these that involve grocery shopping teach them problem solving skills that can be applied to real-life situations.
