Our class is made up of 20 intelligent, energetic and culturally diverse students. They range in ages of 3-5 years, thus among them there are multiple skill levels. Most of them come from low income homes and many are English language learners. One thing they all have in common is a thirst for learning! They learn in diverse ways and my goal is to meet their various educational needs. This entails creating fun and challenging lessons that will elevate their skill levels.
My Project
Imagine 20 wide-eyed curious preschoolers during circle time. While making a list of words that begin with the letter E, emu is stated. Many of the students ask what an emu is and the teacher gives a description. Now imagine that if within seconds, that same teacher could show the students footage of an emu. Students would have the opportunity to observe their characteristics, making learning about their newly discovered word more meaningful. We could then do lessons in which: we study a map of where emus are prevalent; students practice spelling the word emu by playing an interactive game where they it out; we create a graph of the number of students that think an emu would make a great pet; we solve simple word problems involving emus. All of these activities can be done on an interactive white board!
An interactive white board will help to create fun and enriching learning experiences.
These environmentally friendly boards support the visual, audial, and/or tactile learner. The board will provide students with an opportunity to share and participate in the instructional process via interactivity. This will provide a method for students to demonstrate their knowledge of a subject by touching, drawing, writing and viewing content. The board will in turn provide quick feedback about their work. Thus, teachers will have another mode of identifying individual strengths and weaknesses in various subject areas which will influence future lessons and activities.
