This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students range from the ages 10-13 years old. They are students in a District 75 school in The Bronx, New York. District 75 is for students with special needs. My students are living with autism.
You can say that's their superpower, because in my class we do not focus on their disabilities we focus on their abilities.
I'm a first year teacher for the department of education and I'm ready to train my superheros to use their abilities to learn and experience all that they can while in my classroom.
My Project
Working in a classroom with children with Autism presents many challenges. One of those challenges is making sure that each and every child's learning styles are taking into consideration. With the use of the tablets, as well as the other materials, the students who don't have the ability to write or speak now have the means to communicate just like the rest of their peers.
Just Imagine, you have the opportunity to give my students their chance to develop to their fullest potential.
This allows them to access the lesson in the way that best suits their learning styles. My students benefit the most from having a hands-on learning experience. All the materials requested will give them the chance to do just that. For example, the storage bins will be used to develop work stations in which the students will be able to work on their targeted individual educational goals. The Polaroid camera will be used to show their progress.
I always believed in the idea of Each One, Teach One... and that is what I'm striving to do for my students.
