My students need interactive computer programs to keep them engaged in science and help them learn unfamiliar concepts.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Carl Sagan, an American astronomer and author of dozens of science books/articles, once said how amazed he was "at how much more capability and enthusiasm for science there is among elementary school youngsters than among college students." It's true.
My students are absolutely amazing.
The majority of them come from very low income homes with a variety of different family structures. Many of them do not have stability at home and thrive on the structure that is put in place at school. They have goals and dreams. Everyday they are beating the odds to achieve them. A year ago, their school was sitting at a D rating by the state of Florida. The students' hard work and determination brought the school to its current rating of an A. My students are learning to say "I can" instead of "I can't" and are ready to make big changes in this world.
I'm requesting some interactive computer programs to help increase my students' engagement with our science lessons. I'm fortunate enough to have a smart board, but do not have many other resources to use when teaching science. My students are often uninterested because it is hard for them to relate to the topic. These programs will help bring science to life for them and show them how it relates to their daily lives. They will also allow the students to participate in interactive games to test their abilities.
This project will not only provide a positive impact on my students this year, but it will also impact many of my students for years to come.
These resources will help them build a strong foundation for the years of science education they have ahead of them. Interactive computer programs will help keep our students engaged and having fun in school; it will help me create a class of life long learners who continue to seek more knowledge.
