Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a special education class for students with intellectual disability. Our class is composed of third through fifth graders with exceptional needs. Most of our students are nonverbal, but they are able to communicate using sign language, gestures, and alternative communication devices. I have eight curious students who do not let their disabilities limit them from learning and accessing the world around them. They are eager to learn and share what they know with everyone they meet. They are friendly and very inquisitive. Our students come to school with a positive attitude and enjoy learning and helping one another.

The black and cyan ink toners will allow me to be able to print out monthly journals and flashcards from our alternative curriculum as we learn about Science, Engineering and Technology.

Students will engage in hands-on learning by conducting monthly experiments with partners and classmates during small group and whole class instructions. Students with exceptional needs have the power to take full advantage of their education if they are given the right assistive technology to gain equal and equitable access to Next Generation Science Standards as we learn about Engineering and Technology. I hope that by receiving this donation, my students will continue their love for Science and then share it with their families at home.

These toners will allow the rest of the school to print out necessary resources for project based learning in every classroom.
