My Project

Middle school is a challenging time for many students, but for students with print-based learning disabilities, middle school is a time of feeling fear that their peers will notice that they have not yet mastered reading and spelling. As teachers, we can help this by building intentional lessons that allow them to engage in conversations that deepen their understandings of grade-level concepts.

Ben Franklin stated, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn."

My students need to be involved in their learning. Books like Remember: The Journey to School Integration and When Things Aren’t Going Right, Go Left can be read together, encouraging students to engage in discussion around acceptance and positive decision-making.

Including Teaching Grammar through Literature with these literature choices will offer insight to me to help my students master the rules of grammar that are present in the materials they are reading, leading to the development of stronger and more successful readers and writers.
