My Students

Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. As English language learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued. I am the librarian at an up and coming K-8 elementary school. Our school library is an essential resource for my students. I would like to create an environment that stirs the mind to creativity and to help encourage reading through pictures and the comfort of a library that feels like home.

My Project

We plan to watch movies about books we are reading to develop an understanding of how a book differs from a movie made in that book. I plan to have the kids draw pictures of a scene from the book that was interesting and then when we watch the movie describe how it differs in the movie from what we imagined while reading the book. I will be asking the students questions about both that will challenge their memory and cognitive thinking skills to describe how the book made them feel and think versus the movie.
