This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These books are a needed part of my daily Interactive Read Aloud routine. These materials will offer an assortment of reading opportunities as I engage my students and have the chance to learn and discover. The most important part of Interactive Read Alouds is the social-emotional part of being in a classroom with peers and the teacher. I allow time for turn and talk, discussions, questions, critical thinking opportunities, and more!

Each month, I spend a lot of time directing and encouraging my students to think about books.

At the beginning of the year, I point out the illustrations and text. Then I move on to the setting of a story and the story elements, learning about characters and who these characters are. Why do they make the decisions that they do? As the school year progresses, students begin to think more about what the character is thinking and feeling, they begin to make text-to-self connections, problems, and solutions and they learn about the various elements of a book. Is the book fiction or non-fiction, what are the main ideas and how do they begin to explore a non-fiction book?

All of these fantastic connections, learning opportunities, and critical thinking about books take place during my Interactive Read Aloud lessons. This fantastic assortment of books perfectly illustrates these teaching points and helps my students thrive as they begin to read on their own. They will learn to think more deeply about books and go much further beyond the page.
