This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager to learn. The school is housed in an urban area, where over 40% of the student population will be the first in their family to go to college. There is an active and lively Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program at the school, where students learn the skills to prepare for college, such as good study habits and ways to engage as a student in the classroom. About 47% of the students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, and benefit greatly from resources and supplies provided for them. These students come to school with smiling faces and a curiosity to learn.

My Project

Providing notebooks for my students will have a large impact on their learning. As students prepare for college-level courses, especially for those in my school's Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, it is critical that students have a centralized location to take notes, brainstorm, ask questions, collect worksheets, and express themselves academically.

Students utilize their interactive notebooks daily in mathematics classes and beyond, finding their own personal ways of organizing and recording their work.

These notebooks are also beneficial for teachers to track students' thought processes and learning throughout the year. In order to allow all students to have access to this opportunity of finding out their own style of learning and organizing new knowledge, it is critical that every student has their own notebook.
