Interactive Notebooks

My students need copy paper and glue to make the interactive notebook materials that will be used to engage and motivate learning in Science and Mathematics.

My Students

Mrs. Griffin is known as happy and engaging, sharing the passion for math and science with her 3rd graders. Everything is interactive!!!!

My students come from various backgrounds and many cannot afford the school supplies required for third grade.

We are forced to be resourceful and invent procedures to keep our materials as long as possible. We even recycle old and used, items in new and innovative ways.

My Project

Sitting still and listening to a math teacher blah blah blah about numbers and operations is a thing of the past. In Mrs. Griffin's classroom, students are fully engaged in the math and science through the use of interactive notebooks. Interactive notebooks use activity templates printed out on copy paper then glued into a composition notebook for students to interact with. Students love sitting with friends and gluing materials into their notebooks and then getting into groups to play the games and complete the activities. This year we ran out of glue and copy paper just before Winter break and were unable to finish our notebooks, so this project will give us peace of mind next year that we will be able to complete our notebooks for the entire school year's curriculum.

Creating an interactive notebook has been a valued and effective teaching strategy for my students.

I model how to care for and keep the notebook organized. Some students have even named their notebook and call it their best friend. The interactive notebook is something they will keep for a long time even after leaving my classroom. I love to see the students return to me in later grades and tell me all about how their notebook helped them later on.
