This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Organization is an important skill for a student to have no matter what grade level he/she is in. Interactive notebooks will allow my students to organize their notes in a creative way but also to 'build" his/her own textbook to have as an available resource for now and years to come.
My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have in abundance.
Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. My students' parents want the best education possible for them but due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have books, puzzles and other educational toys at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager and bright kids with a wide variety of learning tools. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantage, but not enough to provide every classroom with all the "extras" that they need. In fact due to all the budget cuts, we are running very low on essential supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, and even multipurpose paper.
My Project
I hope to use the spiral notebooks for interactive language arts, math and science notebooks. My students will be able to use Interactive notebooks to take class notes as well as for other activities where they will be able to express their own ideas and process the information presented in class. This type of learning and these types of activities involve more than just listening to the teacher. My students will be using their creative side, cutting, gluing, coloring, writing, thinking, and planning. They will learn really fast to tune into the directions and follow them carefully, so they don't cut off something important or put glue in the wrong spot. Using interactive notebooks is a great way for my students to learn and interact with new information review and practice skills already introduced. In addition, having all of this important information in their notebooks served as a very useful and necessary learning tool.
Interactive notebooks will allow my students to use both left and right side of the brain hemisphere to sort, categorize, and be creative with newly attained knowledge.
Interactive journals will also strengthen my student learning of curriculum through increased student participation. Please help us with getting started in using interactive journals by donation to our project. Thank you.
