This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach ninth grade Intensive Reading and Research in a large district in Central Florida. This school is labeled as a Title I school, meaning that the school receives additional funding because of the poverty in the area. The town is known to have many Non-English speaking citizens. 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch, with many getting backpacks of food to take home on the weekends. Many families are homeless, live in a hotel, or share housing with another family. The students are underprivileged but eager to learn. The students are kind and respectful towards me. Most of the students are the first in their family to graduate high or attend college.
My Project
I am requesting your help to be able to give all my students an interactive notebook to use for reading class and some pencils. Our school recently became an AVID National Demonstration School and we are encouraged to use interactive notebooks. I started using interactive notebooks with my students a couple of years ago and it was a great experience. It helps keep everything organized and my students really liked them.
We were able to provide notebooks for our students the first year with the help of a very generous donation but, we do not have notebooks for the next school year.
I would love to be able to provide interactive notebooks for all my student next year as well as some pencils. This will ensure that they can all start work at the same time and minimize the stress for parents that cannot afford school supplies.
I am hopeful this project will get funded before the beginning of the next school year!
