Interactive Notebooks and Note Taking

My Students

Imagine going from elementary to middle school, BIG changes. Everything from the way you head your paper to the amount of note taking.

I teach 22 amazing 5th grade students in a rural Missouri town.

Our school population isn't very diverse, just good farm kids. We do not have the funding to purchase consumable workbooks, therefore we do a lot of copying.

My students take notes and create interactive notebooks. I do the writing on a whiteboard and not my Smartboard. Love the colorful Expo markers but it would be easier for my students to follow along with note taking, if I could project the notes by using a document camera and colorful Flair pens.

My Project

Making the transition to middle school comes with note taking. In my classroom we create interactive notebooks that are colorful and innovative. We are requesting glue, colored felt tip markers and scissors as well as a HUE HD (red) USB camera so that I can show the students what their notes should resemble.

Currently we will study the American Revolution.

I produce notes that are typically fill in the blank, easier for my students. I don't want to spend class time writing out all the notes, so I just write on the board the words that are to be written in the blanks.

I know that some students have trouble, at the 5th grade level, to copy notes/words from the board but if they could see by way of the document camera, where the words should go, I feel they would be more successful when it comes to using their note on a test.
