My students each come from economically depressed homes.

Of my 28 students, 22 speak a language other than English at home. Over 90% of my class qualifies for free or reduced price meals at school. Having even basic school supplies is often a luxury for these students. More often than not, I provide them with pencils, notebooks, paper, scissors, and folders. All of my students struggle financially and many struggle academically, but all of them can be successful in school.

My Project

My students will use the notebooks, colored pencils, scissors, and glue to create interactive notebooks. Students will create colorful and creative notes to help them understand and retain information in math, science, reading, and writing. They will be organized, allowing them to access their notes for homework and studying for assessments.

The use of interactive journals will greatly impact how my students learn and study.

They will be creating bright and colorful foldables and graphic organizers in their notebooks to make note-taking and critical thinking more appealing. Students will also be able to remain organized and maintain their self-created reference materials. The use of interactive notebooks will provide my students with note-taking and studying skills that they will be able to use throughout their educational career.
