This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative, curious and inspiring. In a Philadelphia neighborhood notorious for violence and poverty, my students come to school every day looking to learn.
They work hard to overcome the obstacles placed in their way, and need help in applying the lessons they learn in school.
In our school of 800 students, every single one qualifies for free lunch. Our school is underserved and underfunded, so any amount helps my students reach the next level I know they are capable of.
My Project
These supplies will allow me to offer my students an interactive math experience. When students can interact with math, they are more engaged. More engagement means my students are learning. My students need to be able to view math as an enriching subject instead of the chore many of them believe it to be.
With the class set of whiteboards, my students will be able to get real time feedback on class room examples and problem sets.
With the composition books, my students will create interactive math notebooks where they will be able to apply lessons I teach. They are a tool used to strengthen student learning of curriculum (the input) through increased student participation (the output). ... The right side of the notebook is for writing down information given by the teacher while the left side is for student-created examples to cement their learning.
