Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from very close knit families, some who are first born Americans. They are so special to me because of how hard they work to achieve in school. Many will be the first to go to college.
This year, my lens will be set on continuing all the curricular areas that we've worked so hard on and also, add in math - CGI with manipulatives.
And each student has embraced and also accepted the new challenge to strive for success as scholars.
My Project
I truly feel that if my students were presented with more models and examples that they can touch and visualize, math will become more FUN.
With this grant, students will be able to manipulate and play with games that involve math and for me, students should want to learn through play even in 4th and 5th grade.
With the decimal dice and fraction games, I can make adding and subtracting fractions FUN and not just limit every math session to paper and pencil. It is my belief, when students learn with different modalities, that is when understanding changes from computational to conceptual math.
