This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are kindergarten to third-grade students who are eligible for special education services. Because of their intensive learning and behavioral needs, they receive all of their academic instruction in a self-contained classroom.
Our elementary school is in a poverty-stricken urban neighborhood in the Southeastern United States.
Because of this, both our school and the students' families lack money to donate much money to classroom projects. With a dilapidated budget, it is difficult to provide these students with the educational excellence they deserve.
My Project
My students love learning skills from their individual education plan through structured work systems. Structured work systems allow a student to engage in a various task across subjects independently. For example, I have requested "alphabet key-pegs" as an interactive learning material. Using this, students learning the alphabet would use the pegs to trace each letter of the alphabet.
Not only can these materials help develop my students' knowledge across subjects and skills, it can also increase independence and, therefore, self-confidence.
These interactive learning materials will help my students progress towards their individual academic and personal goals. In addition, it will help them realize their ability to be successful by themselves.
