My Students

My students love to read but have not, yet, discovered the power of words. We are in a public school in the inner city of Cincinnati, Ohio. My students have hard working parents that want the best education for their child. While many students have Moms or Dads that want the best, they do at times live in a state of change. The school has a high transient rate. Parents move often so the students attend several schools in a year.

My job, as a teacher, is to not only foster learning but to educate the whole child.

First grade is a big year, not only are they learning new skills, transitioning to being a primary student, and at the end it is necessary that they they are prepared for the next grade. School can be a place of continuity for many students, and my job is to make it a place they feel safe, loved, and wanted everyday.

My Project

The students are in need of Chromebooks. The Chromebooks are a way to make reading and math lessons more interactive. As a school the emphasis is on making students not only great readers and mathematicians but also prepare students to better compete in a 21st century technology driven world.

In our technologically driven world, it is important for students to learn how to use technology in a productive and collaborative manner.

The Chromebooks will be used in small groups so that students can practice typing responses and using educational websites to enhance their education. The Chromebooks allow the students to work independently at their own level. This is helpful for students to make the correct progress needed for each student.
