Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The student population is 15% white, 9% black, 72% Hispanic, 3% Asian. Fifty-eight percent of the students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, 32.6% are gifted, 8.2% are SWD and 5.3% are ELL students.

My classroom was blindsided by the coronavirus pandemic like everyone else.

Students in our district are learning at home via technology or preparing to return to the school house.

My Project

y working with students to create a process for them to organize their thinking, I will be able to teach study skills without “teaching” them. Processes build structure, and with use of left- and right-side pages, students will naturally organize their thoughts.

Whether I do teacher input activities as a whole group or as a small group, student output activities give students the ability to show exactly where they are in their understanding of the subject.

Student-teacher-parent interaction is built and strengthened with the use of interactive notebooks with the end results. When students are working on homework at home with their interactive notebooks, not only will students be able to use them, but parents will also be able to have a resource into the learning that is taking place in the classroom.

To be successful and appeal to a variety of learning styles, many nontraditional resources are necessary. Interactive notebooks described above appeals to tactile learners. It allows them hear or see to learn, and then complete their learning by trying it out themselves including cutting, gluing, coloring, and hands on manipulatives
