Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are driven, hard-working, bright, humorous, intelligent, and kind. They attend a Title I public school meaning they are from a high poverty, low-income community in which the vast majority receive free or reduced lunch. I teach high school mathematics in an underfunded, marginalized urban school.

My Project

The notes we take in class are used as a resource for advanced learning at home. My students depend on their notes to explore and practice mathematical concepts for mastery.

This upcoming year, many of my students are incoming 9th or 10th graders who are still adjusting to the pace and demands of high school.

My students have realized that to be successful in high school, they must be intentional in becoming organized and responsible with their classroom materials. I request my students to attain basic writing tools and a graphing notebook. Graphing notebooks are valuable because they facilitate neater note-taking, more precise figures, and accurate charts. Overall, they aid in several note-taking strategies in mathematics. My students come from a low-income community. My biggest challenge is ensuring that all students have the required materials for the class, such as the requested graphing notebooks, as these are often much more costly than a standard notebook. Your donations will ensure that those students who can not afford to purchase these notebooks receive a notebook.

Our goal is to create interactive notebooks to easily access the compilation of the material learned throughout the year to use as a reference. These notebooks can also be used as they advance into higher-level mathematics throughout their educational journeys.
