Music Heals!

My students need ukuleles and rhythm instruments to reach out to area nursing homes and hospitals with the healing power of music.

My Students

Hans Christian Anderson said, "Where words fail, music speaks." We need ukuleles and rhythm instruments to learn, play, reach and teach at area hospitals, nursing homes, and homeless shelters.

Music and community service are very important to our students' success in a rigorous, stressful curriculum.

The students at the our high school come from all over the city eager to learn and achieve, and focused on a goal to to to college and complete a degree. Most are aiming at a career in the medical field and some are interested in music therapy. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch. We do not currently have a formal music program in our school. Many have never played a musical instrument.

My Project

Students will participate in an after school ukulele group. They will learn how to play this fairly simple and fun instrument. We will then take our show on the road to local places where people need a lift. We will not only play the instruments but perhaps also teach the group a little about the instrument as well. The project will benefit everyone involved.

We currently do not have a formal music program in our school.

This project will bring music into the lives of our students and those they serve in a simple and fun way. Students lives will change as they experience the joy of music and most of all the power of serving people who need a lift!
