Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I currently provide speech and language services for children in Pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. Many of my students have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and require specially designed lessons to support their needs. As a result, the goal of my lessons is to help my students with ASD to remain engaged while addressing their speech and language goals. I am requesting interactive books to help plan and execute lessons that will maximize engagement for my students.
Interactive books will help my students participate in story time activities and improve their expressive, receptive and social communication skills.
These books contain onomatopoeic words, animated sounds, actions, and special effects, making the reading experience more captivating and exciting. The interactive features can help children make meaningful connections with the story and improve overall literacy skills. The books that I am requesting include moving parts, pull tabs, and lift the flaps which not only increases engagement, but supports my students' sensory development. They can explore, play, and learn how to handle a books appropriately.
In addition, interactive books help students learn functional vocabulary, categorize objects, follow directions and increases students’ length of utterances.
I am also requesting token boards, behavior punch cards and small prizes to help my students remain on track, encourage positive behavior and reward them for working hard towards their goals.
