This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I teach are attending a Title I school in a wonderfully diverse community that is hardworking and filled with dynamism. We are a culturally, racially, religiously and linguistically diverse school where 29 different languages are spoken, representing 31 countries throughout the world. 88% of our student body qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch.

Our students deserve the very best and I appreciate your considering this grant to help make that happen.

I have been teaching for 20 years now and love sharing with these students the ideas and expansiveness existing in the Arts.

My Project

This year has honestly been a struggle for my students with the Coronavirus but we will be stronger for it in the long run.

Last year was very difficult because our students had to be virtual during the pandemic and our elective classes had to be limited.

My biggest concern is having the proper supplies to be able to provide an amazing interactive art experience. Allowing our students to be able to participate in hands-on programs is so important especially since our students lost access to all in-person interactive classes last year.

Our classroom is lacking certain supplies to be able to have my students paint quality art pieces and to experience a new art form called scratchboards. I truly believe that art can heal and right now that is what our students need the most is somewhere to express their feelings after all they have been through. Donating to this project will allow my students access to a huge variety of opportunities that were lost in the previous years.
