Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is comprised of many students who are immigrants and speak a language other than English at home, are gifted, or part of our special education programs.

I love the start of each day as students line up ready to get to class.

They smile because they know that something exciting will happen. I keep them guessing at what new things I might try or how I will read, and even what I just might wear (I came dressed as Dr. Seuss one day). These students all have different interests, from playing sports to reading a good book, but they share a common bond, the bond of curiosity and that is truly an amazing gift.

My students live in a high poverty area in Arizona. Our school is a Title I campus, and 100% of the school is eligible for the free lunch program. Our focus goals are to greatly improve our writing and our math abilities, but a major focus is to improve our reading ability of fluency to comprehension in all aspects of our school and classroom.

My Project

I have used Nearpod in the past with my students and it is truly an immersive experience for them to use it.

Students love Nearpod as they get ti interact with each lesson, show what they know, and get instant feedback through practice quizzes.

Continuing to use Nearpod would give me an opportunity to take each lesson and adapt it to the many different ways of learning in my classroom. All students love to get feedback, Nearpod gives students instant feedback. It also helps me understand and adjust my lesson when they are not through visually seeing each students work. We can share with each student's device another students work, so they can see how other students are completing their work and not just the teacher.

Students do better when they know if they are doing their work right or need support- and it is instant- We all love this concept.
