"Eager to learn" is a great way to describe my students. Their passion for learning is an amazing experience to be a part of. Each day is another opportunity to provide each child with the tools they need to be successful, life-long learners.
The elementary school that I teach at is located in a bayou community of South Louisiana.
The school is filled with families that are very devoted to enhancing our school and community. Many of my students come from families that work and live off of the land, relying heavily on the commercial fishing industry. Due to the lack of economic resources, many students in our school lack technology in their homes. Technology in our classroom is somewhat limited as well. We currently have 4 desktop computers, 1 laptop, and a SMARTboard. My students truly enjoy their experiences using the technology that they have access to in the classroom, while benefiting from the games and learning activities set for their learning level.
My Project
This will be an exciting, new type of technology for the students to experience and grow from. Best of all, they will be having fun and using safe tools, all while becoming more knowledgeable with first grade skills. The students will use the Apple iPads, headphones, protective cases, Tiggly Words, and Tiggly Math during intervention times. This will allow them to be engaged in several types of interactive learning through phonics, phonemic awareness, spelling, comprehension, counting, addition skills, and number sense, just to name a few. The Tiggly Words and Tiggly Math tools have touch point technology that allows the iPad to react to the tools just like an iPad screen reacts to your fingertip. It will allow the students to create and explore while they are actively interacting with content.
First graders love hands-on activities, technology, and learning.
This is a perfect fit to bring those three things together. It will help my students improve their Reading and Math skills, especially in areas of problem solving, story telling, word building, phonics, number sense, counting, and addition. Tiggly Words and Tiggly Math puts a strong focus on learning, thinking, and creating. Being able to interact with an iPad is a great way to keep students engaged and excited about learning!
