Help me give my students materials to help them engage in their interactive notebooks. These materials will help their ideas come to life as they creatively create their notebooks.
My ninth grade Algebra students all have such unique personalities and all come from very diverse backgrounds. Although we are a low-income, high poverty urban school, my students come ready to learn everyday. In my classroom, we have fun doing engaging projects and working with one another. Having students of various backgrounds and who have various interests makes for a very lively classroom environment. As a teacher, my goal for these students is to make their time in my classroom as positive as it can be.
I love coming to school everyday because I love to see my students excited to learn and ready for a new challenge.
I hope to be able to incorporate math manipulatives, hands-on activities and as much technology as I can in my classroom to ensure the students are enjoying the learning that is happened.
My Project
Help me give my students the ability to create their own interactive notebooks in my Algebra 1 class. I am asking for composition notebooks for each of my Algebra 1 students so that they can build and create a tool that can be used for the rest of their high school careers in other math courses. The scissors and markers will allow for students to be creative and unique.
My students have difficulty wanting to be engaged in learning when notes are taken the traditional way so my hope is that an interactive notebook will encourage students to step out of their comfort zone and engage.
My students will be able to add what they think is essential to their "Notebook of Knowledge" and this will be a tool that will grow with them as they move through various math courses in high school. Interactive notebooks are an awesome way to engage students in day to day activity. These notebooks will also help my students learn how to be organized in other classes, not just my own.
Anything I can do for my students to engage them in class, I will do and try to do. The interactive notebooks not only will engage students in organizing their thoughts and materials, but it will also teach them to be creative and take notes effectively. This tool will be something that they can use all year long to study from and build their confidence in math. The confident a student is in class, the more likely the student will engage in day to day activity.
Although the composition notebooks are only good for one use (for my students this year), the markers and scissors will be used for years to come so that my students can continue to be creative.
