This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students do have access to laptops in our school district, but my project is to provide limited, intentional access to Chromebooks within my classroom for the purpose of research stations and media production in teams, and access to a program called icivics.

The unfettered access to technology will be limited in my class.

Ironically, I am asking for a set of Chromebooks in order to control this access for specific assignments and activities in my social studies class.

Since Covid, students have been given laptops to take home. This has offered unprecedented access for kids. However it has presented challenges for educators as well- broken devices, lost devices. Students now believe their school laptop is an extension of themselves rather than an educational tool.

My project is to have a dedicated set of laptops with specific purposes and station assignments that integrate with our social studies units. Students will also maintain an interactive print notebook so that there is a healthy balance of digital and print inputs and outputs!
